This week's runners
Filed: Wednesday 18th August 2010

Schmokin will be returning to the trials this friday at Rosehill. The sequalo gelding has shown plenty of speed in his previous trials last prep and in his work leading into Friday. The trial will be a good hitout for him and we should be seeing him hit the track in early September.

This Saturday Mr Maritime and Flight Command will both be heading to Kembla.

Mr Maritime will contest the Class 2 1000m event. With two runs under his belt following a long time off he is racing into fitness and the stable are expecting an improved performance from the seven year old.

Flight Command is holding his form well and will contest the Rating 60 1300m race. With the drop in grade at his past two starts the son of General Nediym has placed twice at Hawkesbury. He looks to be right in this race and the stable are looking forward to seeing him back in the winners circle.

Voltabolta has been sidelined for the past month due to the wet weather and a foot abcess. He is now 100% and will be racing next Tuesday at Hawkesbury in the Rating 75 1600m event. He will be going into the race with fresh legs and a bold showing would be expected from him.

Flight Command last week put in an improved effort to finish third at Hawkesbury and will contest a 1200m event. He will be ridden again by Grant Buckley and a good performance is expected from him.

Currently the stable have three now three year olds in the stable nearing their first race starts.

Schmokin and Troodos have done well since a spell and are expected to trial in the middle of August.

Roped In won a trial last prep and has since spelled and completed four weeks in pre training. She is due to hit the track sometime in August.

Rosehill tomorrow
Filed: Friday, 18th June 2010

The stable will have two runners at Rosehill Gardens tomrrow.

Flight Command is second up and will context Race 2, a Rating 75 event over 1200m. The gelding didnt go a yard in the Heavy 10 conditions at Gosford last start and will appreciate 5kgs off his back and a firmer track.

Voltabolta also raced last start at Gosford and battled all the way to the line to finish fourth although not comfortable in the conditions. He too will appreciate the firmer going and has a mere 50kgs on his back. He is in Race 8 a Rating 80 race over 2000m.

Although both horses will be big odds and considered outsiders they have both shown they can mix it in this grade and Lee is very happy with both of them going into tomorrow.

Black Routine salutes at Rosehill

Nothing routine about Rosehill win

2010-06-05T05:37:49+10:00Yesterday at 3:37pm
By Mathew Toogood

SYDNEY, June 5 AAP - Connections of Black Routine were celebrating around him but trainer Lee Curtis remained sceptical until the gelding's number went into the frame at Rosehill on Saturday.

To the naked eye Black Routine looked like he had withheld the late dive from the Peter Snowden-trained Brasileira in the Moreton Hire Handicap (1200m) but Curtis saved his celebration until the victory was official.

The six-year-old held on to defeat Brasileira by a nose with three lengths to third placegetter Empire Place.

"With the angle I wasn't quite sure," Curtis said.

"He's been a bit of a placegetter recently so I didn't want to go off early."

Jockey Glyn Schofield, on the other hand, was always confident he had lasted to win.

"I thought I had won," the jockey said.

"Then I heard Josh (Parr) ask Corey (Brown, rider of Brasiliera) what he thought and Corey said it was very close. I didn't think it was."

Despite being a six-year-old, Black Routine has been restricted to just 13 starts for four wins.

He won a Bathurst Maiden on debut in May 2007 then spent more than a year on the sidelines.

He then spent another 17 months out between September 2008 and February this year.

"I've had a big opinion of the horse all the way through, I bought him in New Zealand a while ago now, but he's had a few problems along the way," Curtis said.

"He's the sort of horse you have to nurse and be careful what you do on the training track, and his last couple of runs have been freshen-up runs.

"It's nice to get him over the line today."

Another win for Thebigiam
Filed: Friday, 21st May 2010

Thebigiam notched his second career win win at Wyong on Tuesday.

The four year old settled off the pace over 1350m and sprinted well down the straight to win by 3/4 length.

The gelding relished the soft conditions which was a bonus coming into the winter.

He now has won 2 races & placed on 3 occasions from 8 starts.

Congratulations to his owners.

The stable will have two runners this week.

Thebigiam will go to Wyong on Tuesday in the Class 1 event over 1350m.

Voltabolta will also be racing this week at Canterbury in a 1MW 1550m race. The old boy hasnt run since failing at Nowra in mid April. In what was a out of character performance from the gelding the stable have put it down to the bottomless Nowra track and are confident a marked improvement will be seen from old Volta.
